24-05-2006 16:29 by Bryan	I would like to fit a shoot coming from my filter into my pond, I would like to make it out of copper sheet which has weathered does any one know if this would harm the fish? I've only seen the idea in a fountain before.

25-05-2006 09:04 by Alan	Bad idea the only reason copper is safe in the home is that water doesn't sit in it for weeks on end plus mains pipes in the majority of cases these days are plastic not metal at all. Equally they say don't use hot water from your house for water changes as the dissolved copper can be lethally high over time. Equally all inverts in the pond could be killed over time and as copper is phytotoxic I suspect it would be extremely damaging to plants over time not a good choice of material I'm afraid. cartilagenous fish are all at risk from copper so if you have any sturgeon its a definate no no. With koi or goldfish the copper is unlikely to be a problem unless copper levels get very high but it is certainly not ideal.
