Hi,
Ive got a 4 foot tank which ive slowly been building up, ive now got to the stage where i have a pair of clownfish, a pair of blue velvet damsels, and zebra goby and a green manadrin.
I only buy established pairs of fish however the one damsel is now bulling the other, to the point where he has started to eat the others tail.
I would really appreicate some help on the matter, an ideas on firstly how best to now help the injured fish, and secondly how do i stop the bullying?
Thanks

cliz, damsels do have this reputation. there may be little that you can do. it will only get worse.
if you dont have a spare aquarium, you will have to 'despatch' the damsel. shops dont usually want them back.
i find the best way to euthenase a fish is by putting it in a bag and placing it in the freezer. as fish are cold blooded, the metabolism gradually slows down to zero. |

try first to rearrange the rockwork into 2 islands either side of the aquarium, so each can have its own territory - that could work.
also make sure the damaged damsel has plenty of hiding places.
another possibility, if you really dont want to despatch the bully, is to add another 4 or so damsels to spread the aggression around. |

i definatly would nt kill it , damsels are aggressive just keep 1 and take the other back to the shop or advertise on classified |

Hi, Thanks for your advice. I really dont want to kill it, so for the time being i have borrowed a breading tank and placed the aggressive one in there, i have also rearranged my rocks to provide lots of little caves. I really hope this works.
Thanks again |

id send the fish back as he/she will possibly kill it because it proably wants to breed but the other isnt ready not yet anyway |
