FILTER CARBON QUESTION |

How long will take for Carbon filling in a Fluval 4+ and perhaps also my internal Juwel Filter to clear medication in 180 litre tank that was added 3 days ago????
I would get proper Carbon not the Juwel rubbish, any ideas about what carbon to use or the Juwell one any good, i heard not.
Please advice, i know the arguments about using meds, BUT am leaning toward carbon for a half day and a 40% water change before using the medication i am advised to use for my other thread
Thanks |

Was hoping the carbon would work quick, will get the Fluval one |

can i re-use the carbon if i just use it in my Rio 180 for 24 hours
Can i simply take the carbon out after this, pack it away and re-use in a months time or something??? Thanks |

Just buy a bag of loose carbon and put it in your Jewel filter - no need to get any fancier.

I would not recommend reusing carbon after it has been used to remove meds it for a start will not be as effective as before and it is possible it could leach meds back into the tank not worth the risk at all. Good carbon will remove the meds within an hour or so depending on flow rate int he filters after 4 hours or a day I would remove it and bin it.
A better option would be to carry out a number of large water changes over a day being careful not to shock the fish or alternatively take the fish out put them in a bucket and do a 95% water change and reaclimatise the fish once the tank has settled treat then with a decent remedy as posted on all the other threads. |
