firstly i have a

juwel rio 400 with lids , not in direct sunlight it is in a dark part of the room
standard juwel lighting 2 x 40w daylight
2 x 55w t5 interpet marine blue
1 x 300w juwel heater


firsty what are the correct sorts of temp to be running the tank at please ?

secondly my tank was on a constant rise today and hit 81.4 is this bad ? if so how do i get the temp back down ?

thirdly i have a digital thermometer what should i set the alarm to high and lowest points ?

fourthly when doing water changes do i need to heat the ro/salt mix before putting it in the tank ?

temp should be around 26
yes its bad to get so high
demp down by chiller unit(expensive) lower actual heater temp
do need to heat mix up so salt does mix correct salinity i do mine in a old tank for 24hrs with heater and powerhead to mix it

you can also cool the tank down by opening the lid and placing a fan directed over the water or float some frozen bottles of water in the tank i mix my salt in 5 gallon container with a air stone to mix to correct sg

i have tried the lid and fan thing today and could only drop the water to 79.3 with no lights on . i think im fighting a lossing battle on this one

heater is not even pluged in atm , i unpluged it thought the same thing

i have a beer chiller the sort that you find in the pub that your larger goes through and controlled by a habistat controller i only got it going yesterday and its working a treat if you are intersted i have another 2 that i will sell cheap.

79.3 is not that hot ours is at 83 at moment and we not worried as long as it does not get much higher dont worry to much we also have got halides running which hots it up

yes they doing fine corals and fish.some books say to run temp higher for corals

I try to keep mine at 24 c most of the time I manage it.

During the summer it peaks at 28 c.

I use evaporative cooling to keep the temp of my tank down I use a clip on desk fan aimed at the waters surface this will bring the temp down by a couple of degrees c if I had a larger tank I would use 2 or more of these fans in the summer I leave it on 24 hours a day. I also use it to keep my halides cool.
