hi i keep tropical fish and koi and i am now going to get marine aswell. im getting a Rena Aqualife Classic 120x40 (i think its 40) am getting it free as a mate is getting bored etc.) im going away in august so im goin 2 wait until after to set the tank up.
1)what equipment am i going to need?
2)what type of test do i need to carry out? how often?
soory for the essay but im still researching and i sure a couple of people on here are going to know most of it.

also what type of lights? i dont realy wont anything to big and i would prefer the tank has a lid if this is possable |

You need to buy the best you can afford and make sure it does that little bit more than you need (if you get the bug you will want to upgrade) and what you buy now will affect what you upgrade to later. Basics you are going to need are:
Protein skimmer. (Although if you do fish only I don’t think you need one. Others will argue with this).
Heaters.
Power heads for movement.
UV steriliser
Live rock (lots of it if you are going to use the Berlin method)
Lighting ranges from T5 to metal halide depending on what you want to keep

thanks im going to have plenty of live rock (i know that but thats as much as i know). i will prob have some plants (corals?) fish + clean up crew etc.
what type of filtration would you recommend?

The Ideal situation is to get the tank drilled a sump put in and either use mirical mud or a refrigium set up. but if you have lots of live rock and sand and an external filter set up to handle a marine setup that should do it. |
