iv read your other thread about white spot im not sure but Alan will correct me if im wrong but that treatment u used could be one of the reasons u lost the shrimp.is it invert safe? |

the man at our pet shop said we lost shrimp because it had just shed its skin and its body would have been soft enabeling the fish to get it |

the fish look a little better , and they are swimming around more, ive noticed they seem worse at night. we have now got about 12kg of rock with xenia coral that seems to be thriving.to be honest we just bought the tank with out knowing about marine fish , the only things i know is what i have learnt off here. (stupid i know). but hopefully we can save the fish. the angel fish with the cloudy eye seems to be clearing too so thats good |

we have internal fluval filters , the man at the pet shop said they are rubbish , we are planning on getting something better at the weekend all of our test have been ok , but the marine lab we bought does not have calcium test so i dont know what that is |

trik i do think our water is not that good because of the filters, it is strange, but its really just since we put the large rock in . |

if its live rock u may get a spike in your water prams you will normally get a nitrite spike if the rock hasnt been cured properly. |
05-06-2006 11:55 by lisareynar
|
how do you sort it out it is live rock , i saw a centerpede type thing on the rock , and there are loads of them feather worms |
05-06-2006 12:04 by lisareynar
|
temp 26 , ammonia 0 ,nitrate no 3 50, nitrate no2 0, ph 8.4 alk normal , salinity 1.025 , theese results were from 2 days ago i need to do the tests again but was waiting for water to settle as we just changed 25 % last night (i dont know copper or dissolved oxygen) |

Mandarins are very difficult to look after, they eat copepods from the live rock so they need a lot of rock to graze from.
If it is marine white spot lower levels of salinity are better.
Higher salt levels will stress them more |

Sounds like oodinium this will kill your fish and is difficult to treat in a reef esha oodinex is the only reefsafe remedy I have had success with but my echinoderms hated it. Your best bet would be to move all the fish into a quarantine set up and treat with a non reef safe remedy in quarantine this will kill all inverts all the inverts and corals must remain in the main reef tank and the reef must run fishless for at least 6 weeks I would also during this time look into improving the systems.
At the very least you need a heater live rock to equate to 1 kilo for every 2 gallons pumps to turn the water over at least 20 times an hour and a good skimmer in addition I would look into adding a UV sterilizer this could be run by a small canister filter that could be used for chemical filter media such as rowaphos and carbon.
This would also be a good time to measurte your tanks consumption rate of carbonates calcium magnesium and the like and work out a dosingf regime that will keep these at optimum levels.
Plus get a good book and start reading practical fishkeeping. |

you should never buy a setup without knowin howto look afterit any pumps to curculate the water?? if so place them pretty near to the live rock as corals/fanworms like it the worms are called Bristleworms they should cause no harm |

Also can you confirm your nitrate level and nitrite level as above you say nitrate 50 then nitrate 0. |
