im not sure most urchins starv to death they require lots of algae the long spined love coralline algae and graz on filamentous hair algae and higher than norm sg around 26, the shells they leave are fine in the tank. |

i hope our urchin is ok , it seems to be fine , on a night its all over our tank and there is lots of algae. its lovely amazing to watch |

I've had one for years they eat detritus to. One thing to watch don't get yourself spiked I have heard it is excruciatingly painful I have also heard of people stepping on them whilst on holiday and spines breaking off obviously A&E would be visited but it is inevitable some spines are likely to remain and as they are barbed they can pop out the top of your foot year later. NASTY.
I have found they are pretty easy to keep good water quality is the key and watch the temp and keep the salinity close to that of natural sea water. Also when first introducing them spend around 2 to 3 hour aclimatising them they are very susceptable to osmotic shock. |
