Hi whats best for a breeding tank sand or gravel (large small)
i have gravel in my main tank and the fish do breed (aulonocara chitandi mesinji and peackocks) , i also whant to start breeding my otopharynx lithobates and dimidiochromis compressiceps.
Whats best for my new breeding tank sand or gravel what would the fish prefer?

the only advantage i find with gravel when breeding is that the fry will pick at the food in the gravel and can also use if for protection. that said i prefer sand. how about a mix? two areas of each?

Hi,I would use sand for any Malawi, but am a bit confused about what you meen about a breeding tank as both fish will breed in their normal tank, compressiceps need a lot of room to spawn so their tank would need to be large, one male and several females,Otos will just get on with it,you can then remove the female to spit and rear from there.

sand always wins over gravel for me in breeding tanks

sands better as the fry can pick off the uneaten food from the bottom
