a few weeks ago we got our black oranda from what i believed to be the best shop in oue area!
well as a lot of people on here know we had him for only 3-4 days in with our other healthy orandas..in less than a week he was missing part of his head from what i am to understand as a secondary bacteria infection! we returned the fish to the shop and got a full refund......we thought the shop could take better care of him ......
Well this weekend we asked at the shop how he was doing and they said he is dead.....
unluck for the beautifull 7" oranda!
But lucky for us that we got the refund of £34 and the fact that we didnt loose the fish .
HOWEVER OUR FISH ARE STILL UNDERGOING TREATMENT TO GET OUR TANK BACK TO HOW IT WAS BEFORE THE BAD INVESTMENT! |

Sorry to hear about your fish rob, I was curious to know what had happened to him. Did you really pay £34 for him? That's such a lot, my local fish shop has them for £9.95, but I wouldn't buy any fish from there again as I've had so many die. I went there the other day and they had a tank full of very sick fish, some dead and they were still for sale!
Glad your other fish are getting back on track. Do u have any pics of them too?? I'd like to see them. |

Robert - good news that some of the fish are recovering. What were you treating with?
Use some acriflavine sometimes referred to tryptaflavine for clearing up final stages.
Dont forget that the skin scrapping only show whats known as a 'gross observation'
Isolation of causative agent in the lab will give a truer picture of what it is. I would still place my money on a virulent bacterial infection due to the ulceration and necrosis of the infected area and the fact that several fish have it. However, there may well be an underlying cause, parasites, stress etc.
keep treating for next 10-12days, along with good water changes and good quality frozen food, bloodworms etc. Hope it clears up without the need for antibiotics from your local vet. |
