would a frag survive in a tropical freshwater set-up?

if so, what type of frag could i use? would i need a halide lamp?

no, a coral frag would not survive in a tropical freshwater setup. for a start, the ionic content of the water is far lower than that of sea water, the specific gravity of FRESH water is far lower than that of sea water, there will not be enough of the vital trace elements in FRESH water and finally there is not enough calcium (CaCo3 to be precise) in FRESH water resulting in the skeleton of the coral (if it could which it will not survive in freshwater) slowly disolving. this is all i can be bothered to write for this pointless, obvious and generaly useless question, and to answer your other questions you could use any type of coral you wanted and no you wouldnt need a halide lamp as it would just die anyway.
