Have yopu go a brittle star or a serpeant star. basically is it covered inloads of spines if not you probably have a serpeant start these can be a problem but if you feed them a piece of lance fish once a week they mind their own business mine has an 18" diameter with the legs stretched out. It sometimes sits under my rock work touching the back and front of the tank.
Brittle stars shouldn't ever be a problem they will eat dead or dieing fish though. |

AS alan said if you feed them they're not a problem, I had a large green brittle star that would raise it'self off the sand to make a little cave, when a fish went in for a rest it would collapse to try to trap the fish. Effectively hunting.
The trouble in my old tank was that it was quite large and I couldn't see the star very often so it was difficult to target feed.
I did have a few unexplained fish losses.
If you see it adopting this hunting position then I would say that you are not feeding it enough. |
