Posted White Spot
30-06-2006

Can anyone help? I am quite new to fish and I have a goldfish who has developed a white spot with a red centre? My husband thinks one of the other fish has had a go at him, but I am not too sure. Any ideas?

30-06-2006
23:17 by Jodie Bake

30-06-2006
23:17 by Lexter
pulling your leg rodriquez, i would never diss a mexican, just kiddin
30-06-2006
23:18 by Lexter
jodie, is nemo behaving strange, listless? scratching on rocks? not eating?
30-06-2006
23:18 by kell
a good anti bacterial medicine and a water change..... what can you tell us about the tank, ie size, filteration etc
30-06-2006
23:19 by Jodie Bake
Water was changed a couple of days ago, it has a filter in it, I don't know what size it is... I am not very good at this fishy thing.
30-06-2006
23:19 by rob r
anti bacterial n ulcer treatment .oops sorry vexter
30-06-2006
23:20 by rob r
and aquarium salt
30-06-2006
23:20 by Lexter
if goldfish are ok with salt (someone please confirm) i would try with some aqaurium tonic salt at a decent dose and see that that does after one week

if the fish doesnt seem to be behaving "ill" then this would further strengthen my belief in using salt, as you still have time to experiment, and salt may clear it up
30-06-2006
23:20 by Jodie Bake
No, Nemo is behaving perfectly normal. Mr Crabs, the minnow, does chase him around and looks like he pecks him all the time. Could this have anything to do with it?
30-06-2006
23:20 by rob r
when changing water use dechlorinator
30-06-2006
23:21 by kell
what do you do at waterchange, how much, do you clean your filter.

These sort of illness sorta indicate something is wrong in your tank, the more that we know the better we can advise you.
30-06-2006
23:22 by Jodie Bake
I change one third of the water, and clean the filter in the old water, this was what I was told to do. I have water treatments, that I was told to put a capful in when I change the water
30-06-2006
23:22 by kell
I dissagree lexter, Ive a baby molly with fungus eyes and she has been in a salt bath for a while nothing is working.
30-06-2006
23:22 by rob r
salt is good on golds lex
30-06-2006
23:22 by Lexter
if you follow Kells advise make sure you do the water CHANGE before you add the meds tho!
30-06-2006
23:23 by kell
what treatments, how bigs your tank
30-06-2006
23:23 by Lexter
if a fish gets too stressed they are much more likely to get diseased FACT

depends.... if nemo is getting stressed by Mr Crabs then you may have to think about seperating them, but the odd bit of chasing is ok

is Mr Crabs feeling frisky??? if he is, he must practice safe mating, coz his name indicates he is a "player"
30-06-2006
23:24 by kell
lmao
30-06-2006
23:24 by Lexter
Kell - its not a guarenteed cure, but salt on its own is well known of being capable of eliminating fungus without the needs for meds
30-06-2006
23:24 by Jodie Bake
Aqua plus - water conditioner and cycle - biological aquarium supplement
30-06-2006
23:26 by rob r
youre shop is just making cash off you .none of those are cures
30-06-2006
23:26 by Jodie Bake
Absolutely! I said this to my hubby earlier.
30-06-2006
23:26 by kell
new direction...does the fish look like it has scales missing, like a sorta indent
30-06-2006
23:27 by Jodie Bake
I never bought them as cures, they told me to put them in with every water change.
30-06-2006
23:27 by kell
looks on the picture like missing scales, this would be a white mark, red if it was deep enough.
30-06-2006
23:29 by Jodie Bake
It's got a red middle. Husband says "it could be fluffy with a red centre"
30-06-2006
23:32 by kell
what do you think its looks like.
30-06-2006
23:33 by Jodie Bake
It's got a white bit hanging of it, with a red dot in the middle, it's nowhere else on his body. Will try the salt and see how we go, could just be scales missing like you say, so many things to consider with all the posts, difficult to decide now
30-06-2006
23:35 by kell
thats it it could be anything, my fish lost some scale and it was like raggy around the edge of the site.
30-06-2006
23:35 by Jodie Bake
What salt stuff should I buy? Any recommendations?
30-06-2006
23:36 by kell
tonic salt you buy it from the pet shop.
30-06-2006
23:40 by Lexter
it's fungus
30-06-2006
23:40 by Jodie Bake
ok, will do, thanks for your help everybody!
30-06-2006
23:41 by Lexter
i have found the INTERPET fungus treatment always works well on fungus, its marketed at FUNGUS and FINROT i think
30-06-2006
23:43 by Lexter
but saying that, salt could be good, but you will find the instructions maybe poor, read up on the website links i gave you
30-06-2006
23:45 by kell
I would try salt first, drastic going for meds.
30-06-2006
23:49 by Jodie Bake
Will get some tonic tomorrow. Thanks again, logging off now
05-07-2006
10:55 by Jodie Bake
Just thought I should let you all know, that although all your advice was really good, it looks like it may just have been missing scales, and they are looking much better from just leaving them be. We have workmen in the house at the moment making a lot of noise with drills etc so he was probably just stressed out!
