Hi I have recently set up a new tank, a jewel 240 with a custom built algae sump, approx 80l. I have 21kgs live rock, 2 clown fish, 5 chromis, fire fish, cleaner shrimp and a few hermits and turbo snails, all the levels were fine and all seemed to be going well!
I couldn't help but buy a regal tang as I always wanted one and on putting it in I was faced with white spot, even though I spent an hour getting it used to my water conditions before releasing it! I have noticed a few on the clown fish. I've started feeding them little and often with Garlic guard and I have purchased some Esha Oodinex! I have gone through a three day cycle of treatment and the white spot is still there! It doesn't say what to do after the three day cycle!!! Should I keep going? Are there any other ideas to cure it? I cant afford to set up a quarantine tank really! Having spent £1000 on a system and £130 on livestock this really gets you down!
Can any one help? |

a regal tang are prone to white spot, they get very stressed easly, do you have a uv on the tank because on the last stage of 3 in white spot the spots explode and release there spaws into the water and they will hang on to any thing, a uv will kill these spaws. |

i had spot in my marine tank and used odinox and after 3 days started to clear but fish still showed spot for a further 2-3 days and it got clearer every day.remember to turn skimmer of when treating and spot lies dormant for upto at a guess 28 days so dont add anything else for a month after white spot as gone of fish. |

The only option to iradicate it entirely on a reef tank is to remove all the fish to quarantine for at least 6 weeks preferably 8 and leave the reef fishless. If keeping tangs quarantining all stock is the only way to go to avoid this sort of whitespot nightmare.
A UV is a good idea to. |
