Putting perch into a pond |

I'm getting a pond installed in my garden, which will be 18 feet x 10, up to 3 feet deep.
I'd like to put some of our native perch in their, since I think they are pretty and entertaining fish.
Question 1: would they survive in a pond that size, or would there be a problem.
Question 2: where can they be obtained? Do any shops sell them?
And help would be appreciated.

hi there
nice size pond i'm impressed , are you having a glass panel in the side ? if not you will never see a perch when you are up and running, a native perch an impressive fish i do admit is green on top so near as impossible to see unless its on the surface , and its also a preditor with a very big mouth. |

you can put perch in there, but they will eat all the fry of the other fish and you'll very rarely see them, if at all. |

I'm aiming for a natural look, using indigenous, non-modified species wherever possible. I'm quite happy if they are hard to spot - it's far from impossible in the right light or using polarised glasses; I have plenty of experience spotting natural fish in the wild. In the past I have even kept trout in a stream - when they are not rising they are harder to spot than most other fish. I have no interest in watching highly visible goldfish or Koi in an obviously artificial environment! Each to their own, I suppose. |

Nah, these ones would be protected from my fishing activities! I only fish abroad or for trout anyway! |

You will rarely find them in shops, get yourself down your local river with worm or maggot. Could put tench, gudgeon, rudd, roach, a decent stain of carp like the leneys I can get, but I would def have the rudd as they are surface fish. |

Some tench and some crucian carp would go well in that lake that your building |

True perch are a stunning fish when viewed from the side but....as the other folks said - you'll never see them.
They'll survive ok in your pond but being predators they will prefer live food. They will accept pellets but wild fish will not take to these readily.
Some coarse fisheries will be supplied by fish farms that only breed coarse fish. |
