This is my 12month old texas cichlid and its started getting small growths on its scales. The largest is visable in the picture , pink in colour and 3-4mm in diameter. He has about 6 of these growths but all the rest are barely visable. I am amsuming it's some kind of bacterial infection but would appreciate any advice.
He's in a 400lt tank with 2 oscars and 5 smaller cichlids. 33% water change every week and gravel cleaned. 1 x wet/dry filter 1 x large eheim filter and an internal filter. Fed with pellets (sometimes soaked in vitamin aditive) prawns, worms, cucumber and cockles.
Hope that is enough info

your tank maintenance is to be commended. very good.
do they growths disapear? have you noticed them for a long time or just recently? it could [possibly be internal
i hope its not Dermocystidium as thats uncurable as far as i know.
more than likely it ulcers. treatable with melaflex |

He's kept with the usual suspects ie 2 x jewels, convict, firemouth,Jack dempsey and 2 oscars .
Ulcers sounds possible will look into that thanks. oh and the water condition is spot on, no amonia, nitrite and low nitrate.
I have a UV sterilizer which i'm going to hook up in the next few days to try to eliminate parasites etc |

Go with the melafix and if this fails try esha2000 this is a wide ranging remedy for bacterial fungal and skin and gill flukes.
Incidentally does the Texas scrap with anything is it possible it is a small injury from another fish or decor to be honest its difficult to give a more accurate view on it from just a picture. I have seen similar marks before on fish that were the result of injury equally I have seen ulcers start out their life as a small mark like this. The melafix should work though. |

started the Melaflex treatment today. The largest growth seems to be growing rapidly and the other smaller ones are now more visible. I'm certain it's not fighting damage mainly due to the fact he/she (not 100% sure) is the boss apart from the oscars so the others don't mess with it.
Hope the treatment works as it is our favourite fish

As I said if the melafix doesn't work try esha 2000 miracle stuff this believe me I had a skin and gill fluke problem in my tank I went through a whole host of remedies even down to the raw chemicals nothing touched it for more than a week esha 2000 cleared it up in a few days it was on a high dose though but there are instructions on how to do this in the pack each bottle is only 20 mls but that is enough for a 3 day course on a 175 gallon tank. |

Well i'm pleased to say the melaflex is working a treat, all the minor ulcers have gone and the largest is only slightly visible now. I am confident "TEX" will make a full recovery....thanks for the advice all |
