I have heard of many juwel tanks doing this it would probably be wise to contact juwel for advice ultimately I expect it will be a case of replacing the tank before it breaks. |

it has been set up for 6 months now with out one.
when setting the tank up we didnt relise it needed one as there wasnt one with it as it was missing.

If it stops your tank bowing then yes but contact juwel it may be cheaper to buy direct from them and at least you can be fairly certain the part is in good nick. |

Oh dear!!
I have a Rio 400. There are two plasic braces from front to back on mine and one of those has snapped?
I was told it didn't matter.... is this right? |

local glaziers will cut a strip of glass to size then using aquarium glue fit it in as a strengthener most petshops do this on their own tanks its the cheapest way . |

|
The braces are there for a reason in my opinion. |
18-07-2006 13:12 by lorna
|
i agree with you alan.
they are there for a reason yes
and my tank shows this because it is bowing!
im goin to order one 2night |

|
get your brace but u might have to drain tank of as now it is bowing it might be to wide for the brace to clip back on. |
18-07-2006 13:27 by kevin george
|
might be worth half emptying to take the stress of the glass and silicone
|
18-07-2006 14:07 by lorna
|
yer il just half empty it and do a 50% water change.
havnt done one for over a week now as my gourami has a nest on the serface so didnt want to destroy it. |

good luck lorna with the brace, its obvious a common thing it might be worth buying 2 and have a spare or see if u can use two at once for added support |

I find it all a bit worrying that Juwel rely on a piece of plastic as a bracing bar instead of using a glass brace my 4x2x2 has a 3 inch brace all round the top plus a reinforced base as well as a bracing bar that is 3 inches wide all in 10 mm glass the same as the tank glass thickness.
It was cheap to from aquacadabra. Not so keen on their cabinets but the tanks are rock solid one is ten years old the other about 8 no problems at all. |

i agree with alan glass is stronger and better secured my 7x2x2 as a brace of 10mml glass and is 9-10inch wide.obviousley juwel r cutting corners and there tanks cant last that long |

The same happend to my rio 300, my uncle works with glass and he made me two thick glass supports to strenghten it and repaired the old one, and it stoped bowing. Now Juwel has released a new version with a much stronger and bigger support. |

you know what.... I'm getting a plasic brace, it fits right and its better than nothing!!
£11 and its coming on friday and it clips straight it. Plasic isn't that weak, surely they have to test these tanks for safety issues?
Admit though it does sound dodge!!
cheers peeps. |

any of our customers that have had this happen have got free ones sent out from juwel, with a tube of glue to fix it, just call juwel customer services and say its only a year old... |

Hey Guys, Ask Juwel about it and they will send you one for free, although they say
Important: the strut is necessary for the statics only - not for the stability.
And they do recommend not having a completely full tank. Thanks my input for 2 day. Thanks |
