Hi guys, Went through to my friends last night and he has purchased a nice modern 5ft tank, lovely glass bend on the front and then goes back straight again:

He is using the following equipment:

External aqua plus 6 - Huge external canister

Internal Eheim filter of some kind, pretty large and he paid £40 for it...

He has an aqua glow and a sun glo light....

He's had the tank about a week now, He putr in some platties just to get the system going, however when i looked closely at the glass there are thousands of tiny white mites, its not dust or particles from the new filters because when you watch them closely they move....

Its something i've never seen before, anyone have any ideas on what it is or how it can be treated???? Thanks

The only thing i can think of is i have this sometimes and they seem to come out of the garden hose that i use to fill the tank, they are harmless and i used to occasionally see fry eat them, i wouldn't worry

Thats so weird you said that von because he used a gardem hose to fill the bl00dy thing, I'll mention it to him, do they go in time because he noticed them 2 days ago and they seem to be multiplying!!!

I guess they must be the larvae of something, if the fish are small they will eat them.

Yeh he's got about 10 platties in there, He's eventually going into large SA cichlids, But not until everything is right!!!

So just let nature takes it course Von..is there no treatments out there which can be added?

I would never add chemicals unless it's a last resort, they are harmless and are more than likely a good food for the fish, when the weather gets colder they will stop anyway, don't add anything, especially if the tank is cycling
