Any tips on helping a stressed Sting Ray. I have read the Aualog book which suggests putting Salt in the tank which I have done and this seems to have halted the deteriation. The problems has been caused by a Whitespot treatment recommended by a manufacturer of the treatment. Used on a 50% dose it has already killed 2 fish and will probably kill 3 more including the ray if I can't get him feeding.
Seems to be an extreme way of tackling whitespot eradicting all hosts!:x |

The ray died unfortunately as well as 6 other fish I have used this treatment before with the ray with no problems and it certainly should not have been a problem for the other fish that died. As a result I have contacted the manufacturer of the treatment to request that they investigate whether or not a dodgy batch has been made up. 5 of the fish that died were perfectly healthy before treatment some of which I had owned over 10 years.
to say I'm gutted is an understatement I seriously considered packing in the hobby over the weekend if I here anything from the manufacturers such as they intend to do a product recall (fat chance) I will post it here. Until this time I will not make any reference to the specific treatment used but if you would like to know what the treatment is email me direct on alanjames78@hotmail.com
The water parameters of the tank are as follows:
Nitrate between 0 and 10 ppm, Nitrite 0 ppm, KH 6-10, GH 7, ph 6.8-7. |

only thing you can use as with redtails formerin 1mil=22gals filters run on large bucket of tank water to keep them alive do not drive filter in tank when using formerlin plenty of air stones in tank with fish dose lasts 5 days need 4 treatments white spot is stress related find where stress is from or white spot will be back |

Newly aquired fish were stressed due to the change in environment this caused the white spot in them. Discussed options for treatment with Ray in tank followed a manufacturers advice for 50% dose which resulted in death of 7 fish including the Ray I have used the treatment prior to this with the ray and the other fish with no problems it was the treatment that stressed the ray, rays do not get whitespot.
The manufacturer is looking into the treatment at this time and will be getting back to me once it has been tested. |

Contacted by manufacturer and they have had no problems. They are going to continue looking into it though.
This is the only variable that has changed so it must have triggered something we shall see. |
