during this hot weather several of my orfe have died due to lack of oxygen .everyday customers come in to the shop asking why theirs have died so i know its not just mine .so the question is does anyone know why orfe are so susceptible to illness compared to other pond fish |

They are just sensitive to low oxygen levels mate and this weather is robbing the oxygen out the water.Big koi are dropping off too.Big time aeration and getting the temp down with the hose will help. You might want to pull out a load of oxygenating plant too as it uses up oxygen when there's no sunlight to photosynthesise with. |

same as trees takes in oxygen in the day and carbon dioxide at night turning in to oxygen ,,,,,,if thier were no trees or plants we would all be dropping like the orfe .....rob r orfe are just like fancy goldfish when it comes to hardyness , not very as these have been bred for thier colours , and being a member of the roach family they aint that hardy ither , also watch out when you treat the pond with chemicals as MS10 bends em like beckham |

robert pope, is basic biology.Plants create oxygen during photosynthesis but when there is no sun and they can't photosynthesise, they absorb oxygen.Sure that if you google the word photosynthesis, you'll find a much better explanation. |

Orfe are river fish I believe and therefore have a higher oxygen demand also they are not a temp tolerant as koi.
Stick a big airstone in the pond should help by driving off CO2. |
