No way will the Juruparis survive in with either of the other species you mention as they are basically peacefull, whereas the red hump & braziliensis are both agressive.

The only other Geophagus (or Satanoperca as they now get called) I've managed to successfully keep in with Juruparis are Geo Heckeli and Geo Daemon's (pic below of a Daemon I found on the web)

Couple of things:

1) Not all geo's do best in pairs. Red humps would be fine - by themselves as a group 1 male and 3-5 females. While young you could squeeze a pair of braziliensis in - but these can be extremely aggressive and get to 10" or so.

Why dont you look at the Suranamensis group and the satanoperca group. Much more peaceful, again some are better in groups.

could i have a group of about 5 or 6 juruparis and 3 or 4 african block heads? As a friend of mine has got a blockhead species tank and needs to get rid of a few because he is shuting down his tank.

Probably. But you might need to thin them out as they grow. An odd mix but quite a good one. You might want to add some congo tetras in thetre for some movement in mid water.

I've had Juruparis and African Blockheads in the same 4ft tank before and they were fine but you have to give each species its own end of the tank.

By this I mean 1 lots from South America so have a few bits of mopani down one end. The others are African so need rocks down their end.

We had a coral sand base (and still do in all our tanks) the Juruparis LOVE sifting through it all day and the Blockheads love it because its what they have in the wild.

For your size of tank I would only get 5 Jurupari as they do get large - 2m 3f if you can.

I don't know how many Blockheads to recommend though you could try 'googling' for any info on their family heirachies and to see what numbers they can be kept in.
