I think the ad is a bit price - the aulonocara might be worth it - but it's a shop price. But the venustus and the fryeri seem very pricy to me!

but remember that they are only worth what someone will pay. If its what you want. But you should be able to pick up c/b greyshaki a lot cheaper than that!

remember that with (good) dealers you should get - correctly i.d'd fish and some sort of garuntee and hopefully they will let you know the source so you can get a good bloodlinne and adult fish do cost more to import, so high prices can be justified to some extent.

But if all you want is a pretty fish, you should not have to pay that much, especially for a common species. Of course having a fantastic specimen of any species is priceless!

13:28 by Malawimad
I agree Paddy, I have a great Mduna Estrate, didn't pay much becuase the guy who i got it off didn't have a clue, but he is fantastic fish...would never sell him!!!

31-07-2006
19:41 by wayne
heres something that is well over priced http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/php/detail59_49712.php
31-07-2006
19:53 by paul stevens
Hell that is very much so over priced i got 2 of them tanks with all the bits for £20 all i didnt get was the fish.
31-07-2006
20:03 by Lexter
so what if its over priced Wayne (no offence, not trying to start an arguement)

There have been a few posts recently about things being "over priced"

Its up the seller what they want to ask for, if they dont get it, they can then reduce the price.

I just think its a bit bitchy posting peeps adverts on here and moaning about the price they asking for.
31-07-2006
20:09 by Lexter
not referring to this thread in particular, Malawi Mad just wants to find out how much stuff normally goes for.

i think if you have a problem with the price of someone's advert, why not email them and ask to discuss it
31-07-2006
21:01 by anna
right on lexter
31-07-2006
21:05 by Lexter
and i know Wayne knows the market value of things
31-07-2006
21:05 by Lexter
hello there Anna, seriously do you agree?

Maybe i was too harsh on Wayne, i guess if its to improve peeps knowlegdge of what stuff IS worth on the market then fair enough,

But it still feels a bit "bitchy" do you know what i mean?
31-07-2006
22:40 by wayne
hi lexter , you and i know how much a tropiquarium 68 is worth new youd def get change out of200 quid , it just makes me laugh how people make thier prices up, fair enough sell one of your marbled convicts for 50 quid it dont bother me , i dont like people trying to con unsuspecting buyers out of money if asnyone needs a recomended retail price for anything i can check in one of my catalogues, dont worry lexter no offence taken
31-07-2006
23:20 by richard hulley
its all very well what people ask for the fish.
2 things

1. can you tell if the fish is wild or not?
2. if it is wild you would be looking at approx £40-£50 a pair maximum.

anyone can say that a fish is wild but not everyone can tell if it is or not
31-07-2006
23:44 by Lexter
agree'd Wayne

08:16 by lisa uk
hi, i wasn't putting your fish down or laughing at you!
& you said that "MY BREEDING PAIR OF ZEBRA'S COST ME £70 AND THEY ARE NOT WILD CAUGHT, "
note the NOT WILD CAUGHT!
so yes you paid way over the top for those fish!
my photos aren't too great & he looks washed out because i used the flash to get a clear pic of him, otherwise it always comes out blurred lol!

08:35 by Malawimad
Lex..... Just so you know mate if you read this thread it wasn't only me who thought the add was expensive, Originally i asked if it was "worth it or not", I was asking advice because i DIDN'T know there true value, I'm not the most experienced keeper especially when it comes to prices so dont jump on me for making an error and asking for friendly advice, this is what this site is for isn't it?

Not one for wanting to cause a ruck mate i just think it was wrong of u to jump and react the way u have done!
01-08-2006
08:43 by KOBISKYE
malawimad well said so what they cost me £70 i have had over two years with these fish and many fry made my money back several times over so is it worth it or not? definetly, im back at work today malawimad speak to u later m8
01-08-2006
08:47 by Malawimad
Ok Kobi, Take care mate, Speak tomorrow!!!

01-08-2006
08:51 by lisa uk
i just hate to see people pay way over the odds for something!
did you buy them from a shop or private dealer?
i'm glad you are pleased with them & are enjoying loads of fry!
but i would feel sick to think i had paid that much for fish that aren't even wild caught.
01-08-2006
08:57 by KOBISKYE
from coral reef store in glasgow, i am not 100% if wild or not maybe i am wrong but i did pay £70 for the male and female, they specialise more in marine so maybe they didnt know either,

not referring to this thread in particular, Malawi Mad just wants to find out how much stuff normally goes for.

Did you not see this of mine Malawi Mad, what made you think i was having a go at you???

"so dont jump on me for making an error"

What part of my comments makes you feel i did that? It's important for me to know coz we get on and i dont want you to feel i did that mate.
01-08-2006
10:08 by Malawimad
I know mate, I do get on with you... i just took "Malawi Mad just wants to find out how much stuff normally goes for" a little personally mate, I'm not as experienced as the majority on here and thats why i felt as though you we're having a dig....

I may have got the wrong end of the stick mate!!!
01-08-2006
10:18 by Lexter
Malawi Mad just wants to find out how much stuff normally goes for"

oh I see, but that was my way of paying respect to you, coz you were just enquiring about the value of something, i think what you did is a much better way of doing it,

Its only my opinion, there is something to be said for discussing value of items and educating peeps about what to pay for certain stuff thats true,

sometimes i think it gets a bit bitchy thats all, as i said i think the way you did it was better,

DEFINITLY good to educate peeps about value of things, but i also think respect needs to be give to the seller, they can TRY AND SELL their item for whatever price they want to as far as i am concerned. It's their to sell, end of.

Again Mad Malawi!!!! lol, by starting this debate on your thread, you have perceive a criticism of you direct, didnt mean that at all,

Do you wanna buy some guppy fry from me, they are going for £12 each mate????

01-08-2006
10:26 by Malawimad
lol..... Guppy fry at £12 each?????what????????

Now your taking advantage of an unexperienced keeper, if i didn't know they we're £5 for 4 in my lfs i would snatch ur hand off!!

Glad we've put this issue to bed mate, Nice 1... i value your info and knowledge!!!
01-08-2006
10:29 by Lexter
thanks Malawi, ok for you £11 each, i also am trying to shift a plain 2-foot tank, NO EXTRA's, looking for £150

01-08-2006
10:32 by Malawimad
Going.....going........gone, lol

£150 sounds reasonable!!!
