let nature take its cause and most of the babies if not all will be eaten, if there is any left you're going to have some intresting looking fish. |

actually that does loog nice even if it is unethical, i would doubt they could breed from them as they are two completely diferent fish so these are likeleyto be sterile. |

hybrids can breed, look at parrots, trouble is they can be more vigourous than species |

i know Danny Boy made a good point hybrids weaken the hobby, but sorry, i would love my fish to cross-breed a bit, i wouldnt sell the fry without explaining, but prob wouldnt sell anyway
Definitly interested in cross-breeding Cichlids, altho dont actively try. |

the whole fertility thing is based on how different the genetic material is between the species, in this case it is very different and im surprised that there was any sort of viable organism at all but one of the main problems is infertility. most parrots cant breed as theyre sterile, but occasionally you get fertile females that you might cross with say a male severum, thus you have 1/4 red devil and 3/4 severum, most of these are fertile so you then breed the best male and best female parrot cichlid type thing and then you have a fertile brood of more parrot looking cichlids.
this is obviously a simplification, but that is basically how it has been done. they can also make them fertile using hormones but im not sure on that one. |

that calvus X looks nice. im not totally against hybrids. i keep flowerhorns myself. its a problem when they are crossed unprofessionally for want of a better word. when people cross the breeds at home and sell them on as one type when they are neither. it can seriously have an effect on a breed |
