this is mainly directed to alan since you are such a promoter of fans over the water water to cool the temp do you find that the fans sucks alot of dust and flys into your tanks thus creating more work for your filters |

It doesn't add that much dust to the tank perhaps you should hoover your house more!
Only joking you do get air blasted at the tank I'm not bothered by flies the fish and inverts eat them same with moths just clean the fan regularly to avoid build up on the fan. |

I don't live in a lab either I have 3 cats that are perpetually molting it drives me nuts.
The dust will do no harm at all providing it doesn't contain masses of toxic chemicals which is unlikely in the home. I do have a stream pump near the surface this often sucks bugs in and spits them out all mashed seriously though the odd bit of hair or dust on the surface does no harm in fact it is unavoidable.
There are other advantages to evaporative cooling to the main one being increased gas exchange this will drive off CO2 and boost oxygen levels plus you will get a ripple effect on the water surface this can sometimes double the surface area of the tank again boosting gas exchange. |

reverse the fan and suck the warm air out.. |

That does work well but the key with this is to have an opening at one end with no fan and then an opening at the other with the fan blasting air out. Any other opening reduces the effectiveness of this option hence the option of blasting air at the tank is far easier especially when so many tanks these days are open topped. |
