i would go for t5's unless you plan adding corals, then go for the halides

go for any lighting you want for fish only and def go for halides for corals !

for a 3ft deep tank i think you will have problems with t5, if you have the spare cash you can get some good deals on halides, and id put money on it soon you would want to try a coral or 2 . so why pay twice for light fittings .

Why do you need T5's for fish? I would have thought T8's would be ok. (fair point about going for corals later though).

you would need halides, you can get a 250 watt aquabay unit including bulb for about £100 new
