Hi all,
Some advice please:
I have a 4'2'2 tank, with FLUVAL FX 5 FILTER + OCean Runner 3500 and twin ?? lights, and the temp stays arround 33C without the heater !!

I know they ahould be around 28C, and the room temp is about that, but I can't understand why it's so high. Any ideas? thoughts?

ps, do you think the ocean runner 3500 produces too much flow??

Dont think flow would affect temp Jamie, Its more than likely your lighting whats doing it....

What lights are they?

Ok can you give us a bit more info:

Is it a marine tank?

Do you have metal halides?
(even flourescents with up the themp by a few degrees - do your fish need the lights on during the day, if not just turn them on in the evening)

Do you have lots of pumps - what is the wattage - again these can cause and increase in water temp.

What fish do you keep, the type of fish with dictate where your flow is too much.

Any finally - is your stock suffering?

Thanks for the info so far. Here are some more details as requeted:

Malawi Cichlids,
Tank has an inbuilt lid with florescent lighting
just the FLUVAL FX 5 FILTER + OCean Runner 3500 filter used (not sure of the wattage).
Lights are on from 8am to 8 pm, although they have been left off for 48hrs now but the temp still sits at 30C WITH THE LIGHT LIDS Open.

Thoughts??

During the hot periods I use a simple clip on fan about £5 from B&Q clip it on to my sump or in your case the tank side and let the fan blow air onto the water surface, works a treat for me. Simple and cheaper than a £300 chiller.

also you may have something else that is not working correctly like ya thermometer! Get another and check its right, I use digital and can get them for around £5 to £10 from pet shops.
