Can any onetell me what the black stuff that grows on black widow tetras is..? iv seen it in with some quarentined fish in a centre once but only one of mine has it.. had it for nearly a month now.. starting to grow into his gill and eyes... its well freaky
is it more humane to put him down than to let him live and risk it moving onto another fish? |

never heard of that one and i cant find anything on google, are you able to take a picture?
whats happening with fish's behaviour? if its on its gills i would worry about its breathing, does it gasp at top at all?
does it look like fungus? does the fish flick against rocks or plants?
any others affected?
if you wanna put fish down myself and others can tell you best way,but i am not advising that, depends on us knowing more Micky |

i am gradually learning about disease now and mostly focusing on parasite infection
i am not one of the more knowledgable here for this, at a rather uneducated guess, perhaps some kind of a tumour? i guess its more bacterial than parasite, but not sure, hopefully others will shed some light for you |

black widows seem to be prone to this i used to have a shoal of 50 or more in my 6ft tank and 2 or 3 had black growths none on the face mouth/though and they lived for a long while,if its feeding let it live |

i shall let it live.. it feeds well and it has not spread to any other fish so far.. therefore i feel it is not a threat to the tanks overall stability (if it has one) |

Looks like fishpox might not be though do a google search on fishpox see what it comes up with it is not fatal unless the growth starts inhibiting some necessary bodily function such as eating or breathing. I have seen it on black widows many times.
It may spread to your other fish so I would not move any fish out of this tank to other tanks for the forseable future equally be prepared for any new additions to obtain these funny growths. |
