Hi guys, thanks for the repiles on my other thread about the stainless steel pipes. Today i wents to some aquatic shops and i purchased a small geophagus altithrons for £2.50, it is about 2 inch and was the last one, was it good value?
Also in another there was 11 geophagus hecki, which i haven't seen before other than in Practical fish keeping mag. They were £7.50 each and they were about 5" long, was this good value? i was going to buy 4 but didn't have enough money so i asked the guy in the shop to save 4.Thanks. |

Really good prices for both species.
But it is no excuse for them getting the names wrong - Heckelli has in particular has not been in geophagus for over 20 years or so.
Just for future reference the correct spelling for these species are:
Geophagus altifrons
Acarichthys heckeli

my brother owns the most impressive heckeli you'll ever see. (we also call it a threadfin acara.) the fin extensions on it are about2 inches and in vivid red. one issue with the threadfin can be these extensions though. fish will always think they are bloodworm and eat them. so bear this in mind. its a shame to see them suffer that way. having said that my brothers threadfin lost its extensions but they grew back after a few months and he seems to have kept them since.
a great fish and he paid £20 for his one.. |

Hey guys, i've been looking on the internet and i have found a geophagus that looks just like the altifrons that i have just bought, but it's a surinamensis. Here is the picture i found on the internet and i will submit a picture of mine. |
