Yo dudes. I came here looking for albino ancistrus but couldn't get any local - some of you are offering them in Cambs and Kent I think.
While I was here I enjoyed looking around and added a few posts and pics (wish you guys got some more pics up, it's so easy man). I enjoyed reading about your experiences, it's a good way to learn more (and I sure don't plan to stop learning).
Anyway, good news, I took a visit to Tropica in Knaresborough N. Yorks yesterday and would you Adam and Eve it, there were 2 "golden ancistrus" left for £7, micros at 3cm long imported from Holland - and now in my cory tank until they are a bit bigger!
Anyways, I keep tropicals. I've made as many mistakes as the lot of you since I started at 8 but am starting to get the hang of things now I'm 43, married and have 2 kids to tell me everytime I'm doing it wrong! Had an otto that lived 13 years and an Arnoldichthys spilopterus that lived for 16 years and 5 months.
I currently have a 6 foot tank with a 12 inch gibby purchased 1995, seven 6 inch clowns (also 1995), nine 4 inch Bosemani Rainbows I raised from newly hatched fry given to me 2 years ago this month and a giant male krib that was born in there a couple of years ago.
I have a 30 inch community tank with small very colourful fish including harlequins, cardinals etc.
My 45 litre glass bowl houses platies and vallis. It is more of a colourful ornament.
My 8 Gallon hexagon tank houses dwarf aquatic frogs which are cool.
I have a 24 inch cory tank with sand and smaller tanks with various snails including apples, zebras and red ramshorns.
I used to breed a lot more fish but family life and other interests have developed. I work as an ecologist and I'm off recording wildlife weekends.
The fish get looked after first before I do anything else though.

Hi Kobiskye. Unfortunately I am not the next David Attenborough but I have been having a great summer identifying wildlife on nature reserves for the owners who are ultimately responsible for knowing what is there and whether anything needs doing to keep these places thriving. There is nothing like being out there and seeing it for real (imagine seeing our fish in their natural habitat!)and recording everything on a site makes you look harder than you ever looked before.

Well spotted wayne. She's called Lulu cos as a kitten she was found in the ladies toilets with her eyes still closed. The attendant threw her in the skip but my friend Sue noticed her and took her home before passing her onto me. One grateful cat 15 years old now- very affectionate and not dumb - its the warmest place in the house. |
