I think its spelt mapani? anyway,i have 2 lumps of bogwood in my 4 day old tank, plants are fine and showing signs of growth already, all's good except this 1 lump of wood that has a fine white fluffy mould growing on it, in fact it's covered with it about 2cm high all over, any ideads what it is?
thanks |

i too once had this stuff, couldnt find out anything about it, it seemed to grow underneath the wood in the darker areas of the tank. The only way i got rid of it was to remove the piece of wood and gave it a jetwash off.
It came back a couple of times and repeated the process. After a month it dissapeared.
Still didnt find out what it was though and couldnt find anything about it on the net or in books, just put it down to some fungal mould |

Probably fungus spores with-in the wood. Doubt they will survive for long submerged but a good jetwash sound spot on followed by a week soaking outside of the tank, just incase |

yea, thought about taking it out to wash it but it's got plants in and around it now so I dont really want to disturb it at all, how about scrubbing it inside the tank? the filter is still very new but it shouldn't set things back too much should it? |

As it appears you have no fish in there yet you could leave it. Once the tank has cycled, and assuming it has all gone, do a 30% water change and it should be perfectly OK |
