01-09-2006 11:28 by bluboy	hi i have a tank thats 48 inches long 18 inches tall and 12 inches wide that isnt in use.me nd my want to turbn it into a lake milawi biotope. i was wondering if any1 culd tell me wot equipment i wuld need and how much me and my dad would need to spend on it all. also wat sort of ciclids are reccomended . we have never kept these fish and could do with some help. thanks bluboy

01-09-2006 14:58 by Ray	Hi,I use silver sand as a substrate,buy it at a garden centre not a lfs much cheaper,I would use two canister filters,one containg a buffer media like calcium plus,a lot of people use ocean rock,but I prefer limestone again bought at a garden centre,as I feel it looks more natural,they should be reefed almost to the top of the tank.In a tank that size stay away from the large haps as they get too big for your tank,most Mbuna will be ok,but avoid Auratus as when adult are killing machines.The recomended stocking rule is one male to two or more females,and the tank will need quite a lot of fish to minimise aggression,hence the need to over filter the tank.Have a look at the net and see what you like,someone on here will tell you if they are ok.
