Efasciatus is a stunning fish. It is the species that the aquarium strain came from/is. but ones that are close to wild can look quite different. The variation in the species is huge from the gold strains through the other commercially available to the wild type patterns.

Great pick up.

The true heros severus is a mouthbrooding species - recently some have arrived in the country.

just to make sure these are odessa barbs aint they?

yup, that is an odessa barb. Males often grow more quickly, but not a sure sign. keep up your water changes as baby fish produce pheramones that can reduce the rate of growth in other fish, dilution is the key.

Regarding value - 6" or so rotkiel (red shouler severums) might demand that in a shop. But yours is just the common species so would be worth more in the region of £10-15 at a full (SL) 4" I would have thought (love to be wrong). The are not common, nor are they particularly rare (retail at 2-3" would be about 7.95)
