They're actually pretty skittish so don't work so well as dither fish.Better bet with tiger barbs or swordtails.Multispinosa are great companion fish for heros and work well with sajica too

To be honest, this is just due to their size. baby cichlids are quite shy when young because they are likely to be eaten, as soon as a few start to get bolder, you will find they all start to come up.

but yes common silverdollars grow to about 6 inch and would be ok. Occasionally you will se red hooks, these grow much bigger.

The word "dither" is used mainly on American sites.
There is little practical use keeping fish soley for this purpose, especially if the owner only gets rid of them when the shy fish settle down and become happy with thier surrounding.

This is something they will do naturally if kept correctly

No silver dollars are not hard to find at the 2" mark go to your local shop and see if they would be willing to get them in for you. Alternatively as suggested on another thread try congo tetras or the suggested barbs do not be tempted by tinfoils though they get huge and also avoid silver sharks these also get quite large.

Congo's max at about 4" and silver dollars at about 5-6" depending on the particular metynis species you go for spotted metynis are very nice if you can get hold of them.

about 5" not easy to find though. Incidentally if you want to have plantys in the tank don't bother with metynis/silver dollars they will eat everything.
