what lighting do you have and where about in the tank is it placed? they like bright conditions, they are zooxanthellate, but need to be feed , many require phytoplankton for best growth, they are a hardy coral given the right conditions. |

my sarcophyton was the first to shut down , coming back good now though, it was just a sugestion, my stichodactyia did not show any signs of stress or my protopalythoa. |

|
only the spaws, all i can say is you said you have a algea problem at the mo, your coral sounds like its shutting down the reason may be from your algea, hence why i asked about water prams, to take nitrates and phosphates out the problem take a sample of water to a good lfs and ask them to test it fully , you no all tests ,
that way you will no there is no problem with the water or your test kits , do you test for alk kh mg and alike. |

would it shut down then come around again then shuit down again |

which finger coral is it , we in reef like to use the latin name is it alcyonium or stylophora both known as the lfs would put it finger coral to dif corals, but keeping very similar. |

Have yolu checked your phosphate levels also have you considered the possibility of chemical war fare from other corals I have this problem in my tank not a lot I can do about it really just a case of waiting to see for me but you may be able to relocate corals to reduce it also try filtering over carbon from time to time. The major effect I suffer from chemical war fare though is inhibited growth of all corals bar the big one which fills most of my 55 gallon tank. |
