i know someone who cuts thier arms off every month(one at a timwe , )and feeds it to his harliquin shrimp, and the arm starts to grow back quiet quick , if it looks like its rotting id get a razor blade and lance it off, |

How long have you had the starfish?
If its only a week or so you may have introduced it to quickly and caused osmotic shock of sorts it doesn't kill starfish quickly they basically just fall apart.
If you have had the thing long term I wouldn't worry to much I have had a serpeant star lose a leg it harassed a clownfish once to much and the clown fish bit it off. That has grown back.
I have a sand sifting star that the serpeant star took a short term liking to he ate one of its legs that has grown back. I also have a large blue linkia that lost a leg in a rock fall that has grown back as well.
Prognosis is good if you have had the starfish for a while.
You must use RO water though as starfish are very sensitive to heavy metals and one symptom of heavy metal damage is the whole thing starts to fall apart normally starts with a limb. |
