What is the oxygen like in the tank? In this warmer weather it gets depleted faster and therefore the pH will drop |

How much algae growth is there? I would be concerned that the flow rate of the sulpherbead activator try setting it up to return to the tank over some aragonite sand that should help and why is you gravel bed 3" deep? If you are working towards a DSB it is not deep enough plus your description of it being gravel implies completely the wrong grain size. I am amazed your nitrate levels are not through the roof.
As far as substrate goes you would be better with a half inch depth of aragonite sand. The good thing about aragonite sands is the buffering potential it is soluble at a ph of 7.8 I believe.
Can you describe in detail as well what the set up is for the sulphurbead activator with carbonate granules is this rigged up to a CO2 canister? I am concerned the return to the tank maybe running to fast not sure on this though as I have never used a gizmo like this I opt for ecosystem methods more reliable in my opinion certainly when you have a power cut. |
