I bought an angel fish about 3 weeks ago, just the one as thats all what was in stock. Last week I bought 2 more angels to join the one, now though, the 2 new ones have formed a group and the other one is just happy by itself.
Will they ever all group together or will I have to buy more of them? |

just give them time as they have to get used to each other in another week they should mingleif they do not then you lucky as the 2 you bought should be a pair |

They are not really shoaling fishes. They are cichlids that naturally for pairs (not always male/female!) But they will naturally pair up. If they are happy I would leave them as they are. Two pairs would really need a 4 foot tank. |

have kept angels on and of for years, only time will tell if they group together as the new fish maybe stressed by the move and that could be why they formed a group they might involve the third when relaxed more

Whether you buy more or not you'll most likely end up with a dominant pair and then you will probably have to remove the others for their own safety.
In community tanks I have found them best as singes. As they are cichlids they may be happiest in pairs but they will want to breed and then take over the tank in my experience.
Even if you have a pair you cannot rest, happy ever after style. With one pair I had the male lost interest in breeding (they had laid many batches of eggs) and the female pecked his eyes in frustration. I removed her and happily his eyes healed up 100%!
I would not class Angels as easy beginners fish as they may eat small fish (unless brought up from a small size with them) and are vulnerable to being fin-nipped themselves. Experience or good advice and luck is recommended for success. |

is your tank community then? there is alwaysa risk with angels in community tank (guppies, small tetras etc) i know it can work sometimes but its not often advised even with small angels. Often people will just walk into a fish shop and think "nice fish" and buy it without thinking first |
