anyone ever mixed these two fish? Firemouths i havent kept yet. Am toying with the idea of a set-up with just these two types of fish, as i believe i maybe able to get away with somekind of semi-planted set-up, From what i understand will be a slight gamble (but then are not mixing most cichlids?) Any thoughts? Size of set up, type of set up (environment). How big are firemouths before they sexually mature? anyone know?

I would say it is worth the risk, but I wouln't try it in a tank smaller than 4 foot the length giving them enough space to get away.

But bare in mind that they do have different conditions kribs prefer soft acidic conditions and firemouth alkaline hard water - tank bred/farmed specimens of each should be ok in neutral water and breed ok. But wild kribs would need softer water (much prettier than farmed strains)

ive bred firemouths, but it was a long time ago,in my experience its best to have 6 younguns, let em pair off o' naturel but bare in mind firemouths are a lot more aggressive than some of the care sites suggest!i had a trio x1m x2f after spawning the male killed 1 female then harrassed the other so much i had to take her out!i dont think id keep kribs in the same tank wouldnt be worth the hassle?if ya gonna use plants, use plastic as they'll rip live uns to bits

PaddyD yes i would like some wild Kribs but will make do with usual variety (well not farmed but homegrown, plenty out there), only if i cant find any homegrown will i get some Kribs from shops. As for the firemouths i am thinking more along the lines of 1.5 inch size, so i can grow them on a bit and maybe get a pair out of it, which is why i ask if anyone knew what size or age a firemouth reaches sexual maturity. Any ideas?
