one of my snails just lies upside down and okes his face out slightly, if i go to move him he goes back into his shell. I'm just concerned as the others are fairly active. He also expelles what could be snail poo but i'm not sure as it looks more like mould or something. Any expert advice would be usefull. |

there are various remedies available to remove snails from your tank but i heard the best bet is to just crush them then take them out this will avoid the water pollution |

yes i think so also there are some very pretty snails some can get very big!but ive found that the amano[algae] shrimp are the best clean up crew for trop tanks< i was given half a doz + now the sand in their tank is absolutely spotless, just make sure you dont put em in with fish big enough to munch em! im hoping they will breed so i can add some to all my tanks they cost bout £10 per doz on ebay!!! |

Apple snails die eventually. The only time I have this problem is when old snails are dying.
I have something called a nerite or tiger snail. It is the best algae eater I've ever had (way better than any other snail I kept). You can actually hear it scraping the glass.
It leaves the glass almost totally clean but there is one drawback. It seems to leave occasional single white blobs of about 1.5mm which I assume are eggs. They are stuck on like super glue! |

Sorry CF i didnt read further down to see you had made a mistake and just sent you a message telling you that you a very bad person! I don't kill stuff anyway so it made me cringe a bit seeing you suggesting "crushing" my snails! |

Those Tiger snails sound interesting Red, will check them out. Telboy thanks. I've only had my apples for about two months if that, they have laid eggs but i think my boyfriend drowned them as he didnt know what they were and put them in the tank, poor babies. I have treated the tank recently but the snail was like this before that. I really cant think what it is. The snails are on their own now as ive moved my fish to another tank. |

Apple snails will only live a year or 2 if you're lucky, the higher the temp in the tank the shorter the llife span, i used to breed them and found the water became very polluted with slime and they poo a lot! sounds like your snail is passing on from old age. |
