With cichlids I like to get them up to and inch body (excluding fins) You can often pass them on much smaller (3/4 or so) but the extra size means they are easier to sell as they will have more colour and be a size people can put in their tank easily. Technically you can move them when they look like proper fish, but getting some size on them will give you a good reputataion and make it easier to pass them on in the future if you breed more.
