hi guys can you help i hear these are very aggresive towards all other tankmates in a 7x2x2 do you think i could happily house 3 or 4 together

I havent had many dealings with them other than a breeding pair slipped through my fingers at my lfs. but there is a guy on the site selling a male due to agression , and i have also heard of males damaging females.also the males always seem to be segragated from other fish in the lfs . hope this helps. |

To start out with you will be able to. But when they get to about 6 inches you may have problems. However in that size tank you might squeeze a pair in. Although even this might be a problem, a divider would make this possible.
The reason they are so aggressive is that: a) they are substrate spawning cichlids that defend a permanant territory. b) In the wild this territory would be 12-16 feet in diameter. In captivity they will settle for less, but they do not like to share - particularly with others of the same species. But they are among the most aggressive and powerful cichlids you will find. |

Yup, Their teath are designed to eat molluscs so ther have a very tough bite. |

heres my tilapia he will eat anything that gets in his way he always eats half than has the other half for supper his name is bruce |

i might buy one for my 6x2x2 they are dead cheap i notice always people selling them. Very easy to get hold and wont cost much  |
