stock lightly and (from personal experience) you do not need a skimmer. make sure you do weekly 15-20% water changes on a micro system this small, and ensure you add as much live rock as you can fit in. |

only way to bypass skimmer is with the eco system with hangfilter behind tank full off miracle mud otherwise skimmer will have to be used |

A sander picolo would aid stability of the system so personally I would recommend you add one but what Yanton says is correct.
I would still consider going bigger if you can and don't forget the cost of supporting equipment. You will need a means of purifying tapwater ideally an RO unit or a supplier of RO water. A refractometer to accurately measure salinity hydrometers in my experience give appaling false readings. A means of mixing the RO water and salt water for a partial water change.
With a tank this size you are pushing nano reef to the limit. |

NO SKIMMER NEED IF YOUR ONLY GOING TO HAVE A COUPLE OF FISH THEN JUST DO WATER CHANGES AS SAID BY YANTON, IT THE FISH THAT YOU MAINLY NEED THE SKIMMER FOR |

I had a 13l nano reef for a long while, had a black and white percula clown and a clown goby in there, (that was the £50 reef tank) i kept xenia, mushrooms, zoanthids and pulse coral |
