Can someone please give me some advice, I have been running a Marine tank for years and have never had a problem, I brought some snails and cleaner shrimps, to replace my three snails I lost and my two shrimps that I had, had for a couple of yrs, and put the new ones in and they have died within mins of entering the tank. I have checked everything PH, Nitrates, Immonia etc.... and everything is spot on, what can it be?
Any help would be great, thank you ) |

maybe you introduced them too fast a shrimp should take at least 3 hours to introduce otherwise it shell crack and it dies how much do your water differ from the lfs water? |

how long did u spend acclimatising them, inverts u need to acclimatise v v slowly otherwise the shock can kill them |

About a hour give or take, but I have had them before and never had a problem, its really strange, and the snails are even worse as I have never had a problem with them either |

are you sure the snails were dead i had a snail look like it is dead touched it underneath everything and nothing happened except it went pichblack underneath so i left it and next day it was all over tank so they might apear dead but are only in hiding but know from expierance ive put my shrimp to quickly in tank and within minutes it was dead |

i can tell you this much it will take a good couple off hours after they died before they will smell off rotting maybe you should have left them in tank till morning to make sure it would not have altered your parameters that quick also removed my shrimp as it apeared dead meantime it sheds it shell for a new one and were still busy recovering but i am also new to marines and am still learning |

Aww I love it when they do that, its great to watch, my were def dead, dear of them, they were floating upside down, I have had a marine tank for nearly 3 years and never had a problem but this has really thrown me, as I just dont know what is wrong, unless the LFS, had bad stock, I suppose that is possible, the water was a near match, apart from the large quantity of stress coat they put in it, when the shrimps went in you could see it coming off them as it heavier than the water of you know what I mean |

you should try to get a reputable lfs to buy from wich u know i got no choice we only have one lfs for a 30 mile raduis but very reliable and he will replace if something like that had to happen |

you said you checked your water prams, did you do what is your,
Alkalinity
Calcium
KH
Inverts draw in calcium from the surrounding water in copious amountsand calcium reserves need to be replenished on a regular basis.

check for copper its toxic to both, but not to most marine fish(used as a treatment)a penny dropping unnoticed into the tank would be enough.or could have come from copper pipeing in your house more so if you use the hot water to help bring your water to the right temp when doing water changes |

How long has the tank been running?
Do you use a DSB?
Do you use RO water?
What are the alkalinity, ph and Calcium readings?
What salt do you use? and how do you measure the salinity? hydrometer or refractometer if a hydrometer how old is it?
What is your nitrate level?
When introducing inverts do you ensure you have slowly raised the salinity in the bag to match that of the tank? Ideally with inverts this should be done slowly over 3 hours or more the same should be done with fish to avoid the risk of whitespot. |
