I have 4 Convicts [2 small males and 1 beeding pair] would it be feasible to keep in a 50 gallon tank with any Malawis?
If not any other recommended ? |

i am going to cause a riot here, but i think it is possible, my chief concern would actually be diet requirements, if there is a breeding pair of cons, use on flower pot only and place it in one corner of the tank |

i think bloodworm and meaty frozen foods should be included atleast once a week, so i think with Malawi that may be an issue
as for behaviour, one breeding pair of cons should be okay in a 50 Gallon, but in my 40 gallon i make sure when the convict fry are free swimming to take them out, as thats when the main agression happens.
Altho with the diet thing, convics can live on non-meaty foods, i just think its a shame if they have to though |

malawi and convicts differ an lot they may stay alive as they are tough fish but convicts are cichlid with a ph off about 5,0-6 and malawis is in the region off 8 so it nothing to do with riot it is putting a fish in a enviroment that is unhealthy and it will only shorten their live lets rather try to keep fish to the best enviroments where they should be |

no, no, no, convicts are quite happy at ph 7.5.-8.0
pH is NOT an issue with keeping Convicts and Malawi together, DIET and TEMPERAMENT is, but I repeat Johan, PH is NOT an issue, the vast majority of convicts are tank bred to a variety of pH, you will not find many Convicts that will be bothered with the PH my friend Johan. |

Convicts DO NOT require a pH of 5-6, even wild caught convicts or red-points do not need a ph of 5-6 to flourish in aquaria |

Convicts would actually require an alkaline pH. Never keep them in acidic conditions, they will die,
While lots of mixes can work it is just a lot easier to not bother - you will get more success.
The behavioural aspects are important, Convicts set up permanat breeding territories of abot 18" in diameter. and need this to successfully breed and perform life events. Malawis only have temporary breeding territorys and different behavioural signals. So the 2 types of fish just dont recognise each other in a way that makes sense. |

Dont even attempt it, seen it done and when those convicts spawn all hell will let loose, the diet, parimeters is totally different, your malawi's will get destroyed, my mates convicts have just killed is huge severum! |

if ya not too worried bout parameters etc then it can be done!id consider diet to be main problem, but you will get agro once breeding starts,so is it really worth it? |
