yes we are going o repair the RO, but i realy need the water asap, the setup we are getting has canister filters on it ,we have a 6' sump under ours, we are going to run canisters till sump kicks in, water is needed to rais the water level to the weirs to get sump running .we thought about useing ( seachem prime )to condition the water then add nutri-seawater or salt or both, there must be a quick and cheaper way of doing it ? till i get RO spares.

You could purchase a niragon or similar unit - while not as good as an r/o it will get rid of chloramines, heavy metals and nirates/phosphate from the tap water and is rechagable, so would solve your immidiate problem.

you can pick up a r/o unit for £50 wich is a great deal cheaper than £135 and then you are setup with r'o water if you not too far from the sea go and fetch from there got a mate doing it and his tank is fantastic

Thanks for your replies. Our problem with using an RO unit is we are on a water meter!

that is tough but unforetunately if u keep marines u need r/o water do not use tapwater as you will have a algea outbreak i do know u can buy a pressure pump for your r/o unit wich they reckon reduce waste to 70% and if you run it from hotwater set at 30 d celcuis then you will save even more water

pump sounds good, but why would hot water save even more ?

cold water is harder to filtrate through your system and it takes longer so if you use the same temp water as your tank you will save water and more water will go through the membrane with a faster speed i did read the reasons before but cannot remember it all but believe me cold water is much harder to filtrate expacially the temp of our water during the winter and it will also ruin your membrane quicker

hi trik, thanks for the offer, but im in kent. The lfs told us to use tap water and conditioner then salt ,as it will be only about a 3rd of the water, the rest being mature from the tank with the mature canister filters that things should be ok . ???????
