I take it you are talking marine and I am assuming you want to know what to do with it when topping up evaporation.
Basically if topping up evaporation pure RO water should be used as the water that evaporates will precipitate any salts it contains before evaporation in effect making the tank saltier. Hence adding pure RO will restore the balance to the desired levels. However it isn't really that simple as topping up is a good time to replenish those minerals taken up by corals and inverts such as calcium carbonates iodine selenium magnesium and the like. So when I top up I add a buffer such as Seachems builder this maintains carbonate hardness or if I am concerned about the ph I add buffer as this will boost alkalinity and ph. Or if I want to add calcium I will mix the RO water for top up with some seachem reef calcium or if magnesium I will mix with seachem magnesium.
But if the consumption rates are low you will not need to do this at every top up so plain RO water is fine. |
