I HAVE NOTICED BOTH MY RAMS AND CLOWNS RUBBING EVERY NOW AND AGAIN.

I doubt that Pimafix will stop flashing, sounds like a job for a copper based med. (but not if you have snails and want to keep em) |

Having said that, I am not sure clowns tolerate many meds. |

RIGHT OK.
THATS WHAT I THORT.
ANY IDEAS AS TO WHAT I CAN PUT IN THERE THEN?
NO SNAILS, I HATE THE THINGS. |

The thing is to work out what it is. I hate treating without having a clue what to treat for.
Falshing (rubbing) is normally due to either water conditions or parasites. I have not had a problem with clownloach and whitespot treatments as long as you keep to the recommended dosage (bare in mind your actual water volume, after your gravel rocks etc are in). Take any carbon out before you trea though.
I would check to water first - rember, once established your cichlids can be pretty tough so may not be the first to notice a problem, check pH as well in case it is dropping.
Copper really should not be the first treatment you use, only use if normal ones dont work, and not with clowns.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

never ever had any probs with my tanks before, this is the first time, but they are clearly rubbing. |

It was not so much the water quality, but whether a perameter had change recently - i.e a change from pH 6-7 both are fine, but a a change could trigger something? Equally new cardinals could have developed an infectuion due to the difference in water.
As long as everthing is ok I would use a general paracite cure - Like WSP by TAP or the esha whitespot treatment (I have not used this but have heard it is good) But do check what it says about clown loach and ring them if they have a warning - see what they suggest. |
