just to clear this up cos it's bugging me. You bought a fish you knew nothing about, didn't ask anyone about it at the store you got it from and threw it in with a bunch of malawi? |

Your fish is definately a beaten up and bullied jeuvenile Rainbow Cichlid (Herotilapia Multispinosa).
They need softer water than the Malawis so you should move them into a different tank if you can.
Here are some useful info links on them:

May I suggest that you 'google' before buying a fish as it saves you money and lfs bulls**t. |

Yes it is a rainbow cichlid, they are quite timid fish.
heros hero - Have you NEVER done that? I think if we are all honest, we have done that in the past! |

I done a deal witha guy who wanted to shift all his fish they were in the deal , i have 2 of them look like male and female, There tank mates were 2 ten inch pacu various malawis clown loach ten inch plec and get this ... a blue gourami .
You will all be pleased to know that the rainbows are currently living with my baby wild green sevs and a geophagus surinamensis they are safe now |

And before you ask the malawis are in a 10ft system with other malawis the pacus are in a 5x2x2 the plec is in a 4x2x2 , and the gourami has joined my platys guppys and mollys in my community tank .... Problem solved |
