Hi. As you know I have coldwater fish. All thie fish are doing great except the little fantail. Over the past week his tail started turning black from the ends. I didnt worry then cause that happened to my goldfish and was told they all change colour, my goldfish is fine. Anyway over the last 3 days the black is now also round his mouth and 2 black patches on body near tail. Also just checked them thouraly 5 mins ago and his tail is shredding! its like its in strips. His normal behavour is fine and eating and swimming around as normal.
Whats wrong with him? Im worried it might be a disease and contaminate the tank affecting the others.
Please any advice. |

Im looking on as many sites as possible and there is mention of colour change and fraying tails but not both together! I last tested the water 3 days ago and it was fine. Ive ran out of tester and getting them tomorrow so cant test the water again now. |

I watch closely and ive only ever seen it chased once but it never got nipped. Saying that though my goldfish and orando have a thing going lol. If other fish get to close to the orando the goldfish will chase them off. The fantail which has this roblem tends to keep its self to its self. Why would the black start 1st?
Ive spent last 2 hours scouring internet and not one page mentions this. |

okk i wudda said if the patches were a reddy colour is a rot or fungus but as its black im kinda put off the idea. although it might be worth treating him for with a fungus treatment

Ok thanks all. I took water sample upto shop today to test water and the water is still perfect. Upon that Ive sat watching them constantly, I watch them alot any way and never seen bullying at all. But today all the others except my lemon fish bullied the fantail awful His tail has become real frayed and ripped and a little of the dorsel fin has also since last night. Upon this Ive took him straight out the tank and placed him in the hospital one. Before the bullying must of happened mainly at night as it seemed he was in worse condition in the morning but today they really layed into him
Why would they all target just one fish? Would that explain the balck marks/colour change on him (there not raised just basic colour change)
I dont think I will be able to add him back to that tank now would I? Surly they would just attack again? If not what would I do with him? That fish is my sons and he is heart broken lol bless him. He was screaming at the tank telling the other fish to get off lol. |

i think i know what might be wrong. du u hav common goldfish, comets or shebunkins in the tank with the fancy because the commons and single tailed fish tend to see the fancys as outcasts and buly them senseless often until they die. if this is the case then you should rehome te fancys or commons. i hope this helps

Hi thanks. Yes have have them all together. They have always been together and been fine before.
The fantail has died today Put him in a hospital tank and he ditearated fast!
I now have 1 common goldfish, shabunkin, lemon fish, orando, ryukin & a pearscale. The common golfish and orando (fancy fish) are little lovers lol. Goldfish also seems to look out for the others. It was the shabunkin and the orando that was bullying him. Im sure the Orando thinks he is a common goldfish cause he swims blooming fast also lol.
Should I see how they go as it was only the fantail being bullied. Could it be cause he was so tiny? |
