Hi. In a tank where is the best place to place and locate your pump? Mine at the moment is on the left side of the tank (side wall) slightly to the back. Some one has told me thats not a good place to put it!

Also the water isnt cloudy but more hazey. Its normaly really clear, this is why they said my pump is in the wrong place.

I can't imagine a pump being in the wrong place causing cloudy water that simply is ridiculous.

What is the purpose of the pump is it a straight circulation pump or is it a filter, the convention is to put filters and circulation pumps in the back corners but this is more for aesthetic reasons I would look for a different cause for the cloudy water, perhaps insufficient mechanical filtration could be to blame or a clogged sponge allowing water to bypass it.

Thanks. I thought it sounded odd that it could be in wrong place. Going to check if its clogged now.

I think the tank could do with a better one TBO.

Can anyone recommend a good pump for a 40 gallon tank of coldwater fish please

Go for an external canister filter avoid fluval and go for eheim if your on a budget go for an eheim classic as far as media goes I would use ehfi substrat with a sponge or filter wool for polishing as a final stage. Goldfish are heavy polluters so I would over rate the filter you buy.

Thanks alan, I thought an over rated filter would be better so the water stays at best qaulity. Any links to the external canister and ehfi substrat, not heard of one of those.
