Forget looking for an air pump, look for side channel blowers. They run quite hot but make hardly any noise. Living Reef, in Dartford use one, it runs the WHOLE store.Their number is 01322 281500 if you want to givr them a ring.
Hope this is of some help.

A COMPRESSOR FOR USE AS AN AIRPUMP , IS THAT SAFE FOR THE FISH?
21-11-2006
11:50 by Linda Chenapa
NO, they have oil in them. Air compressors are fine but they are very noisy.

Wayne ask ste what he is using that seems to work well and its noise free...

Hi guys , Im using a koi air high power air pump for ponds , it does make a little noise but is quite powerfull i am running all the air stones in my fish house off it. it cost me £90 from world of water in bicester they normally retail at £115 . u also get a stainless steel 20 port manifold and a spare diaghram . which i havent had to use yet

air compressor is fine they have oil in them but its removed by filters. you cant spray a car with oil in the air

16:17 by Linda Chenapa
DB - how can a filter remove oil? Most air compressors are oil free.

Check out this on ebay.
we had the 90 ltr pump it ran 15 stones 24" deep ,3 at 30" deep,as well as 2 at 48" deep in pond . They are noisy but you put a short lenght of tube on inlet and I will send you a couple of air silencers from Nigel.

this is a piston that shutles back & forwards via the energy from the coil.

my koi air pump runs 4 x18 inch air curtains and 13koi air stones which are about 1 3/4 inch radius. and it uses hardly any electric.
Am i right in saying the piston style air pump in the pic runs on 1kw of electric where as koi air are 60-80watts

19:49 by Linda Chenapa
the hailea pumps 90 ltr= 90 watts
ACO 380 250 ltr =380watts
yes it is more that the koi air ,i had a lot of trouble with my koi air 65 and 50 ,the 65 had 3 sets of seal kits in a year,i probably just had a bad couple of pumps ,the hailea 90 ltr i have had for 4 years with no trouble, but every one to there own .

i checked it out, i think e-bay "express" is a scam, probably that item will be collected from Japan and then posted from Nigeria hence the 8000 delivery charge,

Bit excessive on the postage but ads states free postage when bought with other items, 50mm airstones are 1.75 plus 1.00 postage.
That brings your pump price down some.
